Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. The product is very good in quality along with all the features I love — it keeps my drinks (soda, water, and juice) cold, runs very quietly, and fits perfectly in my office space. The most TOP NOTCH feature is the temperature setting knob, which is located at the back of the body and is designed to face outward. So, it’s a superb solution that helps avoid opening the fridge door again and again just to adjust the temperature. The built-in knob is easy to turn by hand—no need for a knife or coin to rotate it.Moreover, the AUTO DEFROST feature is literally cool. No freezer means no mess or leaking water, and no manual defrosting needed.Definitely worth it and great value for the money”
Customer Review: “Very handy light weight and quiet . Lots of storage no freezer to have to defrost it’s a plus for me no freezer means more food storage. Has a handy storage on the inside door for drinks so that freed up the regular section of the fridge for more food etc . As per info received in box only about $30 a year in electric use . I didn’t want or had room for a full size fridge so this works great for me . If you don’t need a full size refrigerator then this one is for you . Price is nice too .”

Setup was simple too—just plug it in, add water, and it gets to work.If you want a reliable ice maker that looks good, works quickly, and saves you from constantly buying bagged ice, this one is a winner. Customer Review: “Produces ice fast. (Approximately 2 cups of ice every 30/40 minutes). The cubes are hollow (which we like). The noice level is medium. Like having a fan in the background. Nice size machine, doesn’t take up too much room on the counter. The only thing I’d change is that it doesn’t keep the ice frozen. We have to make sure we transfer the ice to the freezer”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This ice maker seemed too good to be true and in my case it was. I received it and let it sit unboxed and upright for a full 24 hours per the manufacture’s recommendation. Always smart with anything that has a compressor like this as the shipping box can be in any orientation before it gets to you which could cause the compressor lubricant to move from the compressor to other parts of the cooling system and starve the compressor of oil. PSA over, now back to the review. Verified the gravity drain was working by pouring water into the drain hole and it was not draining properly. This unit is VERY sensitive to how low the drain hose is compared to the height of the outlet hose. Any rise in your hose above that level will cause the gravity drain to not drain. I had to abandon my pump setup I had with my old ice maker as even the slight bend to get the drain into the pump was enough to stop the unit from draining. I ended up cutting a drain hole directly into the lid of my sump pump tank cover and ensuring the drain hose was kept at ground level all the way to the tank lid which thankfully was directly behind my ice maker. Once I had the drain working properly, I turned on the water supply and plugged the unit in. There is no On/Off button for this unit. When it’s plugged in, it’s on. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. Things started well. It made its first batch of ice in about 15 minutes. I did not adjust anything. I went with factory default settings. This was the only moment of joy regarding this unit. Within about 2 hours, the unit stopped making ice and had a flashing deicing fault light. I unplugged the ice machine and plugged it back in and it immediately started a new ice cycle without any issues. Unfortunately, it faulted again with the same flashing red deicing light within about 3 hours. The instruction manual states that if that light is flashing, increase ice cube size, decrease ice cube size or contact the manufacturer. I tried all the different ice cube sizes and still kept getting the flashing red deicing fault every 3 or 4 hours. I reached out to the manufacturer/seller and they responded about a day and half later. I understand they are in China and are on opposite hours of us here in the USA. They asked for a video. Not sure what a video would have helped with as I had already sent a photo of the red deicing light fault on the control panel. Back and forth for a few more days with no suggestions for a resolution to fix or replace my unit so I initiated a return. Some times you can save a little money and still receive a quality product. In my case, I got exactly what I paid for. I have since ordered a different unit from another seller here on Amazon that costs a little more, but that unit has been flawless since I swapped it in…”
Customer Review: “Got the ice maker and it worked great. Had some questions on the unit and install concerns so I reached out to customer support for guidance. I was quickly contacted by Finn from support. He was amazing and very detailed. Highly recommended!!!”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I purchased this unit almost 6 months ago and was extremely happy with its performance, but then it stopped working. Since we were going away for several weeks, I shut it off. When we returned, I turned it back on and checked on it several hours later and it was back making ice again. Just prior to dinner, I opened up the ice maker door and steam poured out. It red hot inside and the ice bucket was filled with water. After a quick call to Amazon, they told me it was a 3rd party sale and would get me over to Whyter technical support. I was all set for a “sorry I can’t help you”. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to speak to very lovely person who politely.asked me to explain the problem and take a few pictures of the front & back of the unit and include the purchase & shipping info. She then asked if I would remove it from the cabinet, plug it in and have it go through one ice making cycle and call her back. I called her back and tol her that it did not get hot or cold. It appeared to be dead. She thanked for the info, asked for my shipping address and said they would ship me out a new one within the next few days. A day later she e-mailed me to tell me the unit was ready for pick up and the next day she told me that it was picked up and gave me the tracking info. You never like having a problem with your purchase, but it’s not often that you can say that getting a resolution was quick, efficient and painless. It was. Thank you, Whyter,”
Customer Review: “First, reviews for different items by the same company often get lumped together on Amazon. This is for the Whynter UIM-155 icemaker.I have had the UIM-155 for 3 years now, and it continues to make ice without any problems. However it has developed other problems would be easily repairable IF the company supported its product better (or at all). The UIM-155 icemaker does not require a drain or drain pan that needs to be emptied. Just connect a water line and plug it in. The door is reversible, which was great for me as it is near a corner, and I did not want the door to hit my cabinet face. The UIM-155 was not noisy when it was new, just the normal compressor sound you would expect from a mini-frig. However, over the 2 years I have owned it, the fan motor that blows air across the condenser coils has developed a rattle. That is when I found the completely NON-EXISTENT support for the Whynter UIM-155 icemaker. The ZERO support gives you no way to purchase replacement parts to repair the unit. The condenser fan motor is a small part and simple to replace. However, you can’t buy one. I find companies that fail to support their supports and their consumers extremely annoying. The same goes for the door gasket. My door gasket developed a crimp following a few months of storage after a hurricane destroyed part of my roof. After hours of research I actually did find the part number for the door gasket (UIM-DRGSKT-011), but it was not available. It tells you to check back, but it has NEVER been available, and I mean for OVER 14 months now. A crimped door gasket means humidity from outside the icemaker seeps inside and forms frost, and then you have to defrost the icemaker. I finally used a heat gun on the gasket and managed to get the crimp out, but this is just another example of the company failing to support its consumers. For over 99% of appliances, you can find a parts breakdown and purchase repair parts for any device still in production. For the Whynter UIM-155, it appears the company is trying to force planned obsolescence on its consumers to make them purchase new units instead of supporting their products and building a loyal fan base.”

Complete Buying Guide for Side By Side Refrigerators Without Ice Maker
Essential Factors We Consider
When selecting a side by side refrigerator without ice maker, focus on key aspects like capacity, energy efficiency, layout, and compatibility. Look for models with adjustable shelves, crispers, and door bins that suit your storage habits. Since there’s no ice dispenser, consider whether you’ll supplement with a standalone ice maker or rely solely on your main fridge’s freezer—especially important if you frequently host gatherings.
Budget Planning
Prices for side-by-side fridges without ice makers typically range from $500 to $2,500 depending on brand, size, and features. Entry-level units often include basic cooling systems and static shelves, while higher-end models offer smart controls, fingerprint-resistant finishes, and enhanced airflow designs. Remember to factor in delivery fees, installation costs (if applicable), and potential savings from reduced water/ice filter replacements.
Final Thoughts
A side by side refrigerator without ice maker gives you clean lines, balanced storage, and simplified maintenance—without the complexity of internal dispensers. Whether you’re outfitting a compact kitchen or upgrading an older unit, prioritizing energy ratings, ease of cleaning, and real-world user feedback will guide you toward the best fit for your lifestyle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I add an ice maker later to my side-by-side refrigerator?
A: Yes, many manufacturers offer aftermarket ice maker kits compatible with specific models. However, installation may require professional help and could affect warranty coverage. Always verify compatibility before purchasing.
Q: Are side-by-side fridges without ice makers more energy-efficient?
A: Generally yes. Eliminating the ice dispenser removes components that consume extra power, resulting in slightly lower electricity usage compared to integrated models.
Q: Do I really need a built-in ice maker if I live in a hot climate?
A: Not necessarily. Many people use standalone countertop ice makers during summer months or purchase bulk ice from stores. Assess your actual ice consumption before investing in built-in functionality.
Q: How do I maintain a side-by-side refrigerator without worrying about ice buildup?
A: Regularly clean door gaskets, wipe spills promptly, and ensure proper ventilation around vents. Since there’s no ice dispenser mechanism, you avoid mold risks associated with moisture traps near dispensers.
Q: Is a side-by-side layout better than top/bottom freezers?
A: It depends on usage patterns. Side-by-side models provide wider shelves ideal for tall bottles and platters, whereas top/bottom layouts prioritize freezer convenience. Choose based on what you store most often.
In summary, choosing the right side by side refrigerator without ice maker means balancing style, efficiency, and practicality. From compact dorm fridges to full-sized kitchen units, each option reviewed here brings unique advantages tailored to different needs. Whether you’re drawn to retro designs, high-output ice makers, or space-saving cabinets, there’s a solution that fits seamlessly into your daily routine.
