Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I write a lot of reviews (and read a lot) as I think it’s helpful to see the experiences of others when deciding on an item, especially a more expensive item like this coffee maker. For context, I have a professional Nuova Simonelli espresso machine and grinder from a closed down coffee shop and brewery. I enjoy espresso and very much like a good cup of black coffee. I usually made French press or pour over but changed it up. I went for a SCA certified drip brewer and this was what I landed on after watching reviews, seeing the extraction results and brew temperatures and its ease of use. I have never been more happy with an unnecessary countertop appliance and I wouldn’t be without it at home. The machine brews at 195-degrees and meets the SCA extraction requirements. It is a superb coffee brewer and the insulated carafe, while not completely sealed, will keep the coffee at 170-180-degrees for at least an hour and it’s closer to 190-degrees straight from the brew. The coffee is flavorful, properly extracted and at the right temperature. It is a pump based machine with a removable water tank, a blooming option for lighter roasts (or darker if you want) and it brews the entire 8-cups with 2.5-ounces of grounds in only 6-minutes. This is absolutely fantastic and bests other much more expensive drip coffee machines I have used/owned. Even fancy Nordic or Scandinavian machines. If you love coffee but don’t love the mess and hassle of other methods/machines, this will deliver better than cafe results at home of you properly and freshly grind the beans. Heck, I even tried it with a well known pre ground beans (I was using up pre ground fillets over from a trip) and it made extremely solid coffee out of something I didn’t think would be great (pre-ground, previously opened and resealed coffee from the grocery store). I could honestly be happy with that most days! It is the best coffee machine I have used outside of bespoke, esoteric machines that might be slightly better in their results but cost a mortgage payment or two and have been a pain to clean. This setup is easy to use with fantastic quality and it’s easy to clean. A+.”
Customer Review: “I’ve been really impressed with this coffee machine so far. It brews a full pot super fast, like under 7 minutes, and the temperature is spot on for getting great flavor, especially if you like lighter roasts. The bloom feature is a nice touch too; it really brings out more depth in the coffee. One thing I really appreciate is how quiet it is, no weird gurgling noises like other machines I’ve used. The water tank is removable and has accurate fill lines, so it’s easy to get the right amount without guessing. Cleanup is simple too, since a lot of the parts come apart easily, including the showerhead. Plus, the thermal carafe actually keeps the coffee hot for hours. Overall, it’s a solid machine that makes great coffee without much hassle.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “it’s been quite a while since I’ve purchased a coffee machine. for the longest time, i was drinking french press or using my chemex to do pour over which both yield a delicious cup of coffee to be sure, but sometimes I want some coffee and don’t want to have to deal with that whole ritual for whatever brewing method. especially during the work week, adding an extra half hour to the morning routine. I purchased this machine so i could dump some fresh ground in the top before bed, set a timer and have it be ready in the morning before i start working.I got the version with the Metal Carafe, so far it’s been great. no issues brewing at all. The Carafe keeps the coffee pretty hot for a good while. The carafe is a little more difficult to clean as the top has kind of a lip to it, but nothing a proper bottle brush hasn’t been able to handle. the one complaint I have is due to the slightly awkward shape of the Carafe, pouring fresh water from the carafe, into the machine can get messy if youre not careful. you have to pour it in from the side and then still, since it has that little lip, you cant get all of the water into the machine. theres just a very little bit still left in the bottom. no big deal, i just empty that back in the sink and then start the brew.as far as taste. it’s drip coffee… it taste the same as any other coffee I’ve had from any other drip coffee machine… it’s nothing special, but it doesn’t suck. I use the reusable metal mesh filters that came with the machine in the interest of convenience. time will tell how well it holds up to daily abuse but so far so good.”
Customer Review: “Works great. No dripping when you pour a cup of coffee! Easy to use.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This is an excellent coffee maker. Easy to use. Makes relatively hot coffee. Looks cool on your counter. Frankly, I’ve never found a ‘home’ coffee maker that heats water over 200 degrees. If you want super hot coffee, go to Mickey Ds and get some scalding brew that’s undrinkable for the first 5 minutes. This coffee maker doesn’t leak, makes coffee quick, and is very user friendly. Tips…if you drink coffee with cream/milk, heat the cream/milk in the microwave for 50 seconds before adding coffee. After all, it’s been sitting in your fridge at 40 degrees, so don’t be surprised when you put it in your coffee straight from your fridge and it makes your coffee colder….duh! Clean your coffee maker regularly. I haven’t always done this and it’s ruined perfectly good coffee makers. I have a well, not city water so there’s lots of stuff in the water that can affect the coffee maker. Make sure the carafe lid is seated correctly on the coffee maker and that the carafe is placed correctly in the coffee maker. Again, not rocket science. Finally, this coffee maker was $100. Not cheap but not $300+ either.Well, there you have it.”
Customer Review: “This was a replacement for a probably 15+ year old Mr. Coffee model BVMC-PSTX91-WM that my wife just loved. This model BVMC-DT102 coffee maker appears to be an updated version of our prior model. As far as we are concerned, this coffee maker is perfect in every way. Absolutely love the thermal stainless steel carafe which is a much better option than the el cheapo hotplate style makers with a glass carafe. No safety concerns or burnt coffee. With the press to pour lid you don’t have to contend with sloshing or spillage.Set it for delay brew and you can wake up to piping hot fresh coffee. The carafe keeps the coffee hot and fresh for hours.Simple to set and operate. No need to reset the delay brew time – remembers the prior setting. Just fill the water reservoir, add filter and coffee, push the button and you are good to go (but remember to empty any remaining coffee in the carafe or you will wake up to a puddle on your countertop – don’t ask how I know this). The removable water reservoir and filter basket are also great features. Makes getting the machine ready for its next round a breeze. While it is too soon to comment on long term reliability, have had it in service for about a week now. Probably brewed 10 or 12 pots of coffee in that time. No problems or concerns to report – functions exactly as it should.Would buy another in a minute and, since it is the wife’s favorite, I may do so to have a spare on hand just in case they are ever discontinued.Wish I could give it 10 stars!!”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I am not a coffee snob. I drink it with milk. I use Folgers decaf. I refuse to grind my own beans. I prefer to let billion-dollar multinational corporations do the grinding for me. I used to plop three heaping tablespoons of Folgers into a cut-open plastic jug and pour my reverse-osmosis filtered water over it. Then I put it my microwave for 14 minutes. I drained the coffee through a Brawny paper towel into a 30oz Balfor thermal mug I got on Amazon. OK, so a bit savage and feral, but I didn’t want to be a total suburbanite with a coffee machine. The Bonavita BV1500TS brews in one-third the time. I bought one of those gold-tone permanent filters so no drinking paper residue. I was delighted to see Bonavita is thoughtful enough to put a 4-pack of filters in the box, so I didn’t have to wait for the permanent filter to arrive. I was sure my low-temperature microwave method would be less bitter, but it was the exact opposite. The Bonavita made perfect coffee, and it was my goofy old method that made the coffee taste bad. There is a review on CNET, “Bonavita BV1500TS review: A high-end brand’s step-down coffeemaker brews with bitter results,” by Brian Bennett. He claims this model makes bitter coffee. He also says he loves the 8-cup model. He notes that he tested with a very touchy coffee known to be bitter. I almost bought the bigger unit based on this. I am so glad I didn’t. The coffee I made today was the best-tasting, smoothest, most delicious coffee I have ever had anywhere. I disagree completely with Bennett’s review. Maybe it is outdated. Maybe he got a bad unit. Maybe he did not run three carafes through the unit in preparation, as the directions tell you to. Maybe he got the coffee maker on a grumpy day. As an engineer, I can see that the water delivery system needs to cool the water down from boiling before it drips on the grounds. Maybe Bennett left the lid open or blocked the vents or tested in a hot or cold warehouse. All I know is he is dead wrong. His testing was not double-blind, so I don’t put much credence in it.The unit came in a couple days, even with regular (not Prime) free shipping. It was delivered on Saturday despite saying it would be Monday. Yeah Amazon. The unit was well-packed, and had a decent little manual included. As noted, I loved they put in 4 filters, although the gold-tone filter came today too, but only after I made the first cup.OK, its fast, and fantastic coffee, and its small and compact. The bad is that while it brews in minutes, you have to wait for the water to drain past the coffee after it stops brewing. No different than any other machine, I suppose. There is a plastic lip inside the stainless steel carafe so it never drains completely. No problem, one factor in getting this one versus the 8-cup model is that there is a glass double-wall thermal carafe available for this model. Its 30 bucks, here on Amazon. I will suffer with the stainless carafe until I do a “treat yo’ self” to the glass one. I did love how the top screws onto the carafe, with perfect registration and a lever to open carafe drain. It does have a very restricted flow out of the carafe. Come on Bonavita. This is a drug delivery system. We want it fast. I did not notice any leaking or dripping problems as some others have noted. After I made the three conditioning pots, for the actual first coffee I did not bother to screw on the top. I just poured directly into my 30oz Balfor thermal mug, then added the milk. The perfect temperature of the coffee made it taste even better. This was after adding milk however. No, this is not a shill review. I bought it with my own Social Security money here in the Florida retirement community. I am just so used to being disappointed with products, it was great to get one that exceeded my every expectation. Best yet, I save wear and tear on my old analog commercial microwave, a Sharp R-6300. Search Google for Sharp R-6300 and you can read an article I wrote years ago about that great unit. Next up is a tea-maker I also ordered from Amazon. I hope its as good as this product. Its another way to reduce the usage of my microwave, which I consider irreplaceable.I got so worked up writing this, it occurs to me there is no reason I can’t make a second pot tonight, its decaf after all. Now I get to try the paperless filter, yippee.[Update, Oct 2021, four years later.] I still love this coffeemaker. I not only have used it every day, I have taken to brewing tea in it, so that means I use it more than twice a day on average. A family-sized tea bag makes 5 cups, four brews fills the gallon jugs I used to buy at the supermarket. Way cheaper, I can make decaf or caffeinated tea, and no artificial sugar or high prices. I love that it just takes one button press, no “features”. I don’t want to program a computer with every product I use, I just want to press a button and have it brew and turn off automatically. I don’t want a heater under the carafe.”
Customer Review: “I love this appliance because it is all about, and only about, the coffee. There are no timers, clocks, digital control panels, buttons, grinders, cameras, apps, and no bloody AI, thank god. The manual is barely needed. You simply turn it on and it makes a pot of drip coffee as good as I’ve ever had. Perfect temperature, waves of flavor, reduced bitterness… perfection. It is super easy to clean and it brews quickly. This is one of the best purchases I’ve made in years and I look forward to the coffee every morning. The only tiny flaw I’ve found is that the max level mark on the side of the water tank is difficult to see in low light. That, and it’s going to spoil you for the wretched drip coffee that’s made anywhere outside of your kitchen.”
Complete Buying Guide for Best 8 Cup Coffee Maker With Thermal Carafe
Essential Factors We Consider
When evaluating the best 8 cup coffee makers with thermal carafe, we focus on several critical factors: brewing speed, temperature consistency, ease of cleaning, build quality, and additional features like programmability or strength control. A good thermal carafe should retain heat for at least 2–3 hours without a warming plate, ensuring your coffee stays fresh and hot. Look for machines with SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) certification, which guarantees optimal extraction and flavor. Also, consider whether the model supports single-serve options or has a removable water tank for convenience.
Budget Planning
Prices for 8 cup coffee makers with thermal carafe range from around $50 to over $200. Entry-level models offer basic functionality at a lower cost but may lack advanced features like programmable timers or strength settings. Mid-range options (~$100–$150) often include thermal carafes, SCA certification, and one-touch brewing. High-end machines provide extras like blooming functions, dual brewing modes, and premium materials. Determine your budget based on how frequently you’ll use the machine and whether you value speed, customization, or long-term durability.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right 8 cup coffee maker with thermal carafe comes down to balancing your lifestyle needs with performance expectations. Whether you prioritize speed, flavor, or versatility, there’s a model on this list that fits. Brands like Bonavita and Melitta lead the pack with SCA-certified brewers and reliable thermal systems, while options from OXO and Cuisinart offer smart features for tech-savvy users. Remember to consider counter space, cleaning ease, and whether you need single-serve capability. With the right machine, every morning becomes a chance to enjoy café-quality coffee at home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the advantage of a thermal carafe over a hotplate?
A: A thermal carafe keeps coffee hot without a warming plate, preventing overheating and preserving the coffee’s natural flavor and aroma. Hotplates can scorch the bottom of the carafe and alter taste after prolonged exposure.
Q: How long does thermal carafe coffee stay hot?
A: Most high-quality thermal carafes maintain coffee temperature between 160°F and 175°F for 2–3 hours, depending on ambient conditions and carafe insulation quality.
Q: Can I use ground coffee instead of pods?
A: Yes, most 8 cup coffee makers with thermal carafe are designed for ground coffee. Just ensure you use the correct filter type and follow recommended scoop measurements for best results.
Q: Are SCA-certified machines worth the extra cost?
A: Absolutely. SCA certification means the machine meets strict standards for water temperature, brew time, and extraction—resulting in better-tasting coffee comparable to professional cafés.
Q: Do these machines require special cleaning?
A: Routine cleaning (weekly descaling and monthly deep cleans) is sufficient for most models. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific care guidelines.
