Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I’ve had this coffeemaker since April 2024 and never had issues with it until a few weeks ago when the drip from the carafe got extremely slow and half the water would remain without brewing. The problem is I never changed the filter, I never descaled it either. I cleaned it entirely today, used the descaling once and then 4 cups of vinegar. After several cycles, it’s back to normal. I recommend you descale it every 3-4 months and replace the filter every 2-3 months. I believe I bought me a darn good machine. Oh, and the pod side (single serve) works great as well!”

Customer Review: “I purchased this coffeemaker to replace my old Cuisinart which I had for years with no problems. Unfortunately they do not make the model anymore and this is the new model. In the 10 months I have had it I have had to contact the company twice because of problems. In December the pod stopped working and after cleaning and doing a factory reset twice I finally got it to work. Just 2 days ago the carafe side stopped working. Completely died, no heat or water movement. Nothing. Again I had to contact customer support and am awaiting a response. I gave them all the information they needed and did everything they suggested in December. I would just like to return it and get my money back. Very disappointed in this Cuisinart SS-16 model.UPDATE : 3/26 Customer service emailed back After answering questions and trying their suggestions they emailed me and said they would replace the unit. I had to send a picture of the unit with the cord cut and they replied that I should receive the new coffeemaker in 7-10 business days. Customer service was very responsive. I’m hoping this next coffeemaker will last as long as my original one did.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I was between a 4 and a 5 star for the review, but did go with 5 because of the price point.Coming from a Ninja 10-cup carafe, with all the little fun options of being able to brew a single cup all the way to the full pot (with every option in between) this was a bit of a change.Pros:- 12-cup carafe does the trick for the 4 adults who use it – no making extra coffee- Warmer actually stays warm for the prescribed 2+ hours- Easy to clean carafe and grounds “bucket”- Setting up the program time is easy to use, works very well- Water capacity is as advertised – filled to the 12 line, you will get 12 cups worth of coffee- No leaking once fully brewedCons:- Needed to purchase regular (non-cone shape) filters – didn’t see that clearly identified when purchasing- Brew options button is just Bold or non-Bold coffee – no fancy creations if you’re into that- Brew time is excruciatingly long- Water capacity is for how much you want to brew – the single pour switch is only to redirect where the coffee is going to brew. If you filled the reservoir up, you will have coffee everywhere. No way to switch once the reservoir is fullOverall, once you get used to the way this machine operates, it is an excellent product and great value for the money.”

Customer Review: “I seldom have need to brew a whole pot of coffee at one time, but I like to be able to if I want to.I also like to have the ability to make just one cup of coffee without having to buy expensive pods to do it with. The coffee maker accomplished both things well.I like that the single cup mode has a permanent filter that you can just rinse out and you’re ready to make another cup.I also like the fact that the single cup side will hold almost 16 ounces of water, which is the size of my favorite cup.It is an exceptionally quiet appliance and it makes no more noise than a spring breeze whistling through the pine trees. It brews the coffee to just the right temperature for an enjoyable cup of coffee.Amazingly enough, the lid is totally functional as well. This is a great coffee maker and is well worth the money.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “We love this coffee maker! Our K-brand single cup maker was annoying and finally gave up on us. We still wanted the option for single serve, but also the carafe because my husband and I drink a large amount of coffee during the work week. The delay brew setting is wonderful, coffee is ready before we even step foot into the kitchen in the morning. The K cup holder is great, the whole housing comes out, so you don’t even need to grab the little pod, you can just dump it right out of the housing. And the option to brew single serve fresh ground coffee? Amazing. The K-brand pods to use your own coffee are a nightmare, but the Hamilton Beach single serve grounds basket is easy and LARGE.The coffee tastes so much better and so far, it’s been easy to clean, but I haven’t had it long enough to descale it yet. Takes up just a little more room than our old one, but it’s shaped better so it fits on our counter more easily.”

Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. “Didn’t you just get that two months ago?!”That’s what my son just said to me after I spent the better part of two days… TWO DAYS … attempting to resolve the dreaded “nEEDLE” error on the single serve side.Of course, the return window closed a couple weeks ago. Of course. It’s not that the needles needed replacing or that they were clogged. I cleaned both – top and bottom needles – thoroughly. They are piercing just fine. And it’s not the brand of cups being used. We have a variety of brands from a variety of sources. It’s the machine. See video. It brews about an ounce or two then suddenly starts hissing and puffing out steam from all openings, ending with an impressive blow-out of steam and loud hissing, accompanied by a burst of ground-filled water. It’s about half an ounce but it contains enough grounds to cover the bottom of the coffee cup.And then there is a blinking blue light on the “brew/power” button. My son reminded me that our previous machines went out in a similarly hiss/steam blaze of glory. I guess because they lasted a few years, I didn’t pay attention to how they ended up giving up the ghost. I just attributed it to them being a few years old and replaced them. This is a few MONTHS old. Bought at the end of April 2025. And it’s now the end of June 2025.As much as I have felt loyalty to this machine for more than a decade … I agree with my son: it’s possible it’s just not made as good as the previous versions were.PREVIOUS REVIEW:This is such a great system. I am honestly a fan of the dual brew going back years to when it was first released. I bought her (what, 10 years ago?) and it lasted until a few months ago, when she started refusing to acknowledge we had cleaned it whenever we tried to use the single-serve side. She was done. Period. She still brews carafes just fine, so she went to my husband’s work site because no one brews single-serve coffee there.I made the mistake of trying a few other systems because some of my family wanted something that makes cold coffee, but after a few months of packing up and returning them all, one by one, I just bought this and told the family to take whatever coffee is left over in the carafe at the end of the day and pour it into a jar and put in the fridge. Voila, cold coffee… OG style. I mean, as a former newspaper editor, I was drinking cold coffee before it was a thing. Pour a cup of coffee, sit down to your desk and then the phone rings and someone knocks on the door… And four hours later, you sit back down and you have cold coffee. IT’S NOT THAT HARD and does not require an expensive machine to get done. Geesh.Anyway…This is a great system, as I knew it would be.I do like the larger reservoir for the single serve side – it lets me get a few decent size mugs from it.It brews a nice hot mug of coffee. I am able to put an average travel mug under the single serve dispenser but you do have to remove the mug pedestal to do that. I don’t use the pedestal because we have tall mugs and the coffee doesn’t splatter out while brewing like it does in shorter mugs.I like the addition of the brew strength choice – regular or bold. The bold makes it just right for a coffee. That option is there for both carafe and single serve use.You also get to choose the size of the mug on the single serve – going up to 14 ounce. That’s that we use for our Contigo travel mugs.It gets the coffee hot and brews pretty quickly, which is good in mornings. Now, for context – this is sitting next to a $1000 fully-automated espresso machine that we use for fussy drinks. So, the fact we would spend that kind of money for an espresso machine should show you that we are buying for results – not cost savings. And the Hamilton Beach Dual Brew is our choice for quality results. The fact it’s affordable is a bonus.”

Customer Review: “This coffee pot is the best one I’ve had in a long time. You can brew any size pot you want or just one cup up to 14 oz. Put in water, put in grounds and turn it on…super simple. It doesn’t do pods, but that’s ok by me because they are too expensive for me anyway. The pot is programmable to have coffee ready when you wake up. It has a sensor so that if you need a cup before the pot is done brewing you can remove the pot to poor a cup and it stops and doesn’t drip on the warming plate. I have not had to clean up coffee that ended up somewhere other than the pot or the cup and best part, no grounds in the pot or the cup. I am a happy customer. Complete Buying Guide for Best Coffee Maker 12 Cup And Single Serve

Essential Factors We Consider

When evaluating the best coffee maker 12 cup and single serve options, we examine several critical factors including brewing versatility, build quality, ease of use, and value for money. The ideal dual brewer should seamlessly switch between single-serve convenience and full pot capability without compromising on taste or reliability. Key considerations include the type of single-serve system (pod-compatible vs. ground coffee), programmable features, cleaning requirements, and overall footprint in your kitchen.

Budget Planning

Prices for dual brewers range from budget-friendly options around $50-$70 to premium models exceeding $150. Budget-conscious shoppers can find reliable performers like the Hamilton Beach 49980RG, while those willing to invest more can access advanced features like rapid brewing, smart interfaces, and thermal carafes. Remember to factor in ongoing costs such as filters, cleaning supplies, and replacement parts when calculating total ownership costs.

Final Thoughts

The best coffee maker 12 cup and single serve combination depends entirely on your specific needs and preferences. Whether you prioritize eco-friendly single-serve options, rapid brewing speeds, or advanced smart features, there’s a dual brewer that will fit your lifestyle. Consider how often you’ll use each brewing method and which features will genuinely enhance your daily routine before making your decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between a dual brewer and a single-serve machine?

A: A dual brewer combines both single-serve and full pot capabilities in one machine, offering maximum flexibility. Single-serve machines only brew individual cups, typically using pods or ground coffee in dedicated systems. Dual brewers save counter space by eliminating the need for separate machines while providing more brewing options.

Q: Can I use ground coffee in single-serve compatible machines?

A: Yes, many dual brewers come with mesh scoops or reusable filters that allow ground coffee in the single-serve portion. This eco-friendly option eliminates plastic pod waste and often provides better-tasting coffee than pre-packaged pods. Look for models specifically marketed as “ground coffee compatible” or with included mesh scoops.

Q: How often should I clean my dual brewer?

A: Regular cleaning is essential for optimal performance and longevity. Clean the carafe, brew basket, and water reservoir weekly with warm soapy water. Descale the machine every 1-3 months depending on water hardness and usage frequency. Always follow manufacturer guidelines for specific cleaning schedules and approved cleaning solutions.

Q: Are thermal carafes better than glass carafes?

A: Thermal carafes keep coffee hot longer without using a warming plate, which reduces energy consumption and eliminates burn risks. However, they can be heavier and more expensive than glass carafes. Glass carafes offer better visibility of coffee levels and are easier to clean, while thermal carafes provide superior temperature maintenance for extended periods.

Q: What’s the best way to prevent mineral buildup in my coffee maker?

A: Mineral buildup (scale) occurs naturally as water evaporates during brewing. To prevent excessive buildup, use filtered water when possible and descale regularly. Most manufacturers recommend descaling every 1-3 months, but heavy users may need to do it more frequently. Commercial descaling solutions are available, or you can use a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Finding the perfect coffee maker 12 cup and single serve combination means balancing your daily coffee habits with your kitchen’s practical needs. Whether you’re drawn to the innovative features of models like the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Advanced or the eco-friendly approach of single-serve ground coffee brewers, the key is choosing a machine that genuinely enhances your coffee experience. Take time to consider your brewing patterns, kitchen space, and desired features before investing in what could become your most-used appliance. With the right dual brewer, every morning becomes an opportunity for perfect coffee—whether you’re making a quick single cup or brewing enough for the whole family.
