Either way, I bought a couple of cork screws earlier that left like they would break at any moment when pushing down the arms, and after a few bottles, one arm did bend. So this time, i paid attention to the reviews and chose these cork screws as the review said they are solid quality. The review was correct. This design is pretty fool proof and easy for anyone to use. You do not need super human strength to pull the cork. Just remove the foil, screw the sharp coil into the cork until the arms have reached the top of their range, the place the bottle on a hard surface and push both arms down. Easy peasy. The bad openers I mentioned earlier did not have anything on the opener arms and the metal was thin. It did not provide a good feel. These cork screws have thicker arms and have a rubber grip on them which provides a much more comfortable operation. I would definitely recommend these cork screws for quality and value.

Customer Review: I open a lot of wine bottles, well over 400 a year (no I don’t drink *all* of them by myself). I have an electric opener (3rd one) a rabbit style with the opposing levers to grip the bottle (5th one) and have had and own countless angel and traditional (jack-knife style) corkscrews. I like the electrics, but they just don’t last more than about a year. The other rabbit styles (using a plier like grip on the bottle) I’ve owned are wonky, eventually jam and/or need to be repaired, but even in use typically require more force than a simple angel opener. A well made angel style opener (good luck finding one) is nice but can still require a bit of finesse to remove the cork fully. While jack-knife style openers are traditional, very reliable and relatively easy to use, many folks are uncomfortable with them (they require practice to use well) and misuse can result in minor injury. THIS opener is awesome AND comes with the best foil cutter I’ve ever seen integrated in the opener (which means you aren’t searching around for it). At first I was concerned that the device didn’t come with a stand, but it rests upright just fine on its own. The action is smooth and requires little force. The design has you holding the neck of the bottle in your hand, not inches away on the end of a grip like the plier style “rabbit” as well as applying the force directly into remove the cork. This makes for a much better presentation when opening the wine in front of someone. Examination of the design and other reviews lead me to believe this opener will last a long time. I’ve been opening wine bottles using various devices (some not actually designed for the purpose) for over 40 years. This is my favorite opener ever.

Customer Review: I’ve been uncorking wine bottles for 50 years (gee, time keeps on slipping into the future). This is the best tool I’ve had. The handle provides all the pressure you need to insert the cork screw and if the cork is good the turning process will pull the cork free of the bottle. It can be a bit difficult getting the cork out of the handle, but that’s a small price to pay. Bonus. An engineer friend taught me a better way to start. Get a utility knife and cut up (verticle) and under the foil wrapper around the bottle top. Peel off the foil, then use your corkscrew. It is amazing how easy it is to remove the wrapper and how much easier it is to uncork the bottle without the foil around. I used to work a knife around the top of the bottle and cut the top off the foil which was never easy. This upstroke taking slices of the foil never puts the knife edge against the glass and only rips through the wrapper. It is stupidly easier.

Customer Review: These units sure aren’t the quality of the old Screwpull units from the 80’s & 90’s. However, they work just the same. An earlier reviewer mentioned how he fixed the screw when it broke loose from the top. I don’t know if what I used for adhesive was the same, but it worked great. Turn the handle upside down, fill the void with ‘Loctite Super Glue Ultra Liquid Control’, then reinsert the screw slowly (make sure to fit the groove properly down into the upturned head) so as not to force overflow of glue out, then hold it for about a minute or two. At this point it will be stable but you’ll want to set it upright between a couple of books or something, & wait 24 hours. Good as new & much better than what the manufacturer designed.

So I sprung for twice the price to check this one out. It is a little different to use. Just raise the handle, place on top of the bottle, squeeze the handles together with your left hand, and then drop the lever with your right hand for the screw to go in, and lift the handle to pull the cork out, then back down to drop the cork off the screw. Very easy once you get the hang of it. Similar to the old rabbit design. I considered a battery operated design but my friends said once the battery dies you are out of luck. Cannot recharge or replace (or at least not easy to do it). Very happy with this one. Comes with extra screws so after one wears out, you can replace it. Nice.
