We use this for a totally different purpose than an under the sink instant on hot water heater, but an extremely useful purpose; a dog washer, yes. We have 2 large breed German Shepherds that tolerate bathing very well. This is a low volume electric water heater, so it works well for what our intentions are. For me, this was an easy installation, but I am a certified plumber and electrician. I did all of this work myself and it should be noted that I have a watertight cover for the receptacle connections. Running the 240 volt receptacle to get it near the water heater was the most tedious part of the project. Aside from that, the heater was simple to put together. I got creative with the inlet and outlet connections, which can be viewed in the photos included with this review. We set the temperature to 95 degrees, which is a comfortable temperature for dog bathing. The inlet is from our adjacent standard garden hose. The outlet (hot water) is coupled with a short garden hose and a siphoned soaper, which triggers hot the water. When we are done soaping and scrubbing the dogs, we simply remove the soaper device and then rinse them with the warm water from the heater. Also, using the included mounting bracket, which is very clever, we simply lift the heater from the bracket and take it indoors until the next bath. We are thrilled with this arrangement and it is so very convenient, compared to what we have been using for the last few decades. (yes, different dogs, of course!) My kitchen is at the opposite end from the water heater and it takes forever to get hot water there.Likes:* The size is crazy good for fitting under a sink. It’s maybe 9 inches wide and super thin, so it doesn’t take up much space in the cabinet.* Hot water comes out in maybe 5 seconds once I turn the faucet on. That’s zippy compared to waiting a full minute before.* The LED display is snazzy and shows the exact temperature. You can adjust it with the touch buttons right on the front.* I figured out the wiring and got the bracket mounted. The connections lined up where they should.* The aluminum case feels thick and the heating element looks like it won’t break.No likes:* The wire colors are wonky and don’t match standard US electrical colors. I had to double-check everything with a multimeter before connecting it.* Water temperature drops a bit when you crank the flow rate all the way up. It’s fine for normal use but don’t expect blazing hot water if you’re filling a big pot quickly.* You need an electrician unless you’re comfortable with 240V wiring. “I replaced a 55 gallon hot water tank with this unit, I bought a little larger unit than what the ratings said I needed to be safe.Make sure you check your electrical panel to make sure you have room for 3 x 40 double pole 40 amp circuit breakers. I didn’t have enough room, had to add a sub panel plus had to run 9 x 8 gauge wires the unit requires.I’m pretty handy, but asked a certified electrician to help me with the pre wiring. To be honest, I would have been afraid to try and do this myself even with all my experience.Installation was pretty simple after you have the wiring installed. Use 1 inch piping from your electrical panel to the tankless electrical unit or you won’t be able to pull the nine 8 gauge wires through the pipe.I also suggest having an electrical panel with a main breaker so you don’t have to shut the whole house down for the final install.Additionally i installed a surge protector to hopefully protect the unit from power surges which appears to have delicate electronics inside.We’ve only had this unit in operation for 4 days so far, but the water is really hot, have had no issues at this point and I love the added space gained without having the tank.Time will tell if we save 50% on energy, but from all my research it makes sense even with us living in a warm climate.There are several tankless unit manufacturers with great ratings, I went with Rheem because if I have an issue, they are based in the USA and hopefully that means English speaking in my time zone…..Hope my review is helpful to you.Update: it’s been 7 months, still works great, very happy with this decision even though I can say I’ve seen significant energy savings” – Customer Review

“We purchased this water heater based on comments here and like others, we agree that it is a great water heater.We are using it as a whole-house water heater replacing a sixty gallon tank that started leaking. We expected that there would be some adjustment in going tank-less and using an 11KW as a whole-house water heater, for example like not using other faucets while showering, etc., but we were willing to make that sacrifice because we were going to be saving money on the heater, and on electricity with the bonus of doing the right thing for the environment.Well, this heater exceeded expectations by a LOT. We keep it set at 110 degrees which makes for very hot shower but not scalding and no problems using other sinks at the same time. My wife told me she took a shower while the dishwasher was running and expected it to be “cool” but to her surprise there was no problem handling the dishwasher and shower at the same time. It has been about a month since we installed the water heater in our 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath house and we have forgotten that we are heating water on demand because there is no noticeable difference compared to when we had a sixty gallon tank.One of our showers is a double shower and I tried that out, no problem the heater handled both fine with no reduction in temperature. You should be aware our house is a Florida house so our city water comes in at around 68 degrees. If you had well water you will have different results as you will be heating much colder water. One other thing to note, if you take a bath you will want to crank the heater to higher temp, it is so easy with the knob and digital readout I taught my daughter to crank it before her bath so she can add extra hot water to “freshen” up her long and hot bath otherwise 110 degrees isn’t hot enough to heat up a cooled bath do to rapid heat loss. You can buy the remote control for about forty bucks and adjust the heater setting from anywhere, or just keep your heater set to a higher temp. We like running it at 110 so that we have maximum energy savings and eliminate scalding risks.I highly recommend this heater, keep in mind that you need upgraded wiring, you will probably have 220 volt electric for your existing water heater but ours was only 30 amp and this one calls for 60 amp so that means getting MUCH thicker wire that is expensive and hard to pull. If your heater can be located close to the breaker box you will save money in wire and the hassle of pulling super thick wire. I bought wiring and breaker for 50amp by mistake and didn’t notice until after the installation was finished. We must have never drawn more than 50 amps because the breaker has NEVER kicked even running two showers so I plan on keeping the 50 amp breaker as the wire we used is safe for only up to 50 amps and I’d need to replace the wire to even thicker.” – Customer Review
