Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Microwave works well. The 1200 watt rating seems accurate, had to adjust cooking times compared to my old 950 watt Microwave.”

Customer Review: “My wife had decided to remodel our kitchen and wanted a microwave cubby instead of an over the range or countertop type. The cubby would not take a countertop microwave with trim easily enough, so I went with this Summit microwave set. It is a top notch microwave and worth every penny (almost).I will say that I did not install it, so I cannot speak to the easy of installation. Our contractor installed it and said it was pretty straight forward, so take that as you will. The materials seem to be high quality and everything. The microwave itself is fairly quiet compared to most I have heard and used over the decades. My wife and daughter were not sure it was on when they first used it. It was working and does cook quickly. The microwave provides 1200 watts and is 2.2 cu ft inside (large enough to fit a turkey in it). There are tons of buttons that have been pretty standard over the years on the control panel. The 30-second add on button is the same as the Start button on this model. I know that design decision saved space for other buttons, but I would have preferred a separate button like others I have used. The start button could wear out more depending on your usage. Also, the clock is a green color just in case you are wondering. All microwaves made in the past decade seem to have a child lock feature now that is pretty annoying, but at least this model allows you to disable it forever. Some other microwaves reset after a power outage, but not this one. The manual and a separate card tell you how to disable the child lock forever. It can be enabled again if needed later on.The trim piece is of pretty good quality as well and screws into the cupboard around the microwave. I will say that another review stated a gap appeared around the microwave unlike the picture showing a tight fit. I agree with that review as I do have a 1 inch gap on the left and right sides (see pictures). The gaps are symmetrical and not really standing out to anyone, so I think it is fine. But I see where someone could be disappointed with the look. Not sure if that gap is purposeful to allow venting and prevent fire hazards.Overall, I would highly recommend this unit if you need a microwave to put into a cabinet. It is quiet, powerful, feature rich, and looks good. The cost is a bit much (seems to be those trim pieces based on my research), but know that you do get quality for the price.”

Customer Review: “Bought this to replace the broken microwave in my RV. 24″ over the range microwaves are harder to find than I thought. I could not find a microwave that was as deep as the old model. All 24″ microwaves are 24″ wide, but my older microwave was much deeper, and the cabinet space it was designed to fit in was also deeper. So the new microwave was set-back 4″ too deep in existing cabinet space which is a problem because it requires a rear wall mount and the range vent is top vented and the door did not have enough room to hinge open. The fix was rather simple, I screwed two 4x4s vertically to the wall into the stud location and anchored the mounting plate to that. Its behind the microwave and you cant see it. Otherwise its a great microwave for the price. About 20 pounds lighter than the old unit, much more sleek looking, and I dig the way the door opens. All and all, very happy with the purchase. Its a good microwave for the price, and matches the stove well. Brings a little modern touch to the 13 year old RV.To know if you’ll have issues or not having to shim the microwave out from the wall, measure the depth of your cabinet, if its around 15″ or so (normal) you should be good. If its deeper than that, then whatever that distance is, is the size of the shim. My cabinet stuck out 19″. I needed a 4″ shim.Good luck, its a nice, sleek, unit.I’m giving it a 5 star on install, its not the manufacture’s fault my cabinet was so deep.”

Customer Review: “I was hesitant on this purchase because I wasn’t familiar with the Cosmo brand. I did some research and learned that Cosmo makes a variety of high end kitchen ranges, range hoods and microwaves that are sold through Home Depot and other such places. Now that I’ve installed this microwave my wife and I could not be happier. It’s sleek, modern appearance compliments our other black appliances, the unit works perfectly, it’s quieter than our Kenmore was, the controls are easy to read and intuitive and my wife really likes the way the dual lighting illuminates the stove top while she’s cooking. For us, this is a 100 percenter…..love it!”

Complete Buying Guide for Over The Range Microwave Oven Stainless Steel

Essential Factors We Consider

When shopping for the best over the range microwave oven in stainless steel, several key factors determine performance and suitability. First, assess the **capacity**—measured in cubic feet—to ensure it fits your typical dishes and family size. Next, evaluate **power output** (watts), as higher wattage means faster cooking and better defrosting. Ventilation matters too: look for CFM ratings and convertible venting options if you lack ductwork. Additional features like sensor cooking, preset programs, and child locks add convenience and safety. Finally, confirm compatibility with your cabinet dimensions and electrical requirements before purchasing.

Budget Planning

Over-the-range microwaves vary widely in price, from under $150 for basic models to over $500 for premium units with convection and smart features. Budget wisely by identifying must-have functionalities versus nice-to-haves. Entry-level options from brands like COSMO or GASLAND offer solid performance without breaking the bank. Mid-range models from GE or Kenmore include more advanced settings and durability. High-end choices like Furrion or Summit deliver professional-grade performance ideal for frequent cooks. Remember to factor in installation costs if hiring professionals, though many models include mounting hardware.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right over the range microwave oven in stainless steel ultimately depends on your kitchen layout, cooking habits, and lifestyle needs. Whether you prioritize space savings, powerful ventilation, or smart cooking aids, there’s a model here to match your goals. Always verify measurements, read real user reviews, and consider future-proofing with features like sensor cooking or convertible venting. With the right unit, your kitchen becomes more efficient, stylish, and enjoyable to use every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between an over-the-range microwave and a countertop model?

A: An over-the-range microwave installs directly above your stove, combining cooking and ventilation in one unit. Countertop models sit on your kitchen surface and require separate venting or recirculating filters. Over-the-range units save space and integrate seamlessly into cabinetry, while countertops offer portability and easier access.

Q: Do I need ductwork for an over-the-range microwave?

A: Not always. Many modern over-the-range microwaves come with convertible venting—you can choose between exhausting air outside via ductwork or recirculating filtered air back into the kitchen. If your home lacks external venting, look for models labeled “recirculating” or “convertible.”

Q: How much space should I leave between the microwave and ceiling?

A: Most manufacturers recommend at least 12 inches of clearance above the microwave for proper airflow and safe operation. This ensures ventilation fans work efficiently and prevents overheating during extended use.

Q: Are stainless steel microwaves harder to clean than other finishes?

A: Stainless steel shows fingerprints and smudges more easily than painted surfaces, but it’s actually quite durable and resistant to corrosion. Using microfiber cloths and gentle cleaners maintains its shine without scratching. Models with PrintProof coatings further reduce smudge visibility.

Q: Can I install an over-the-range microwave myself?

A: While some DIYers successfully install these units, professional installation is recommended due to electrical connections, ventilation routing, and structural mounting requirements. Improper setup can void warranties and pose safety risks. Always check local codes and manufacturer guidelines before beginning.

Finding the best over the range microwave oven in stainless steel doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By focusing on your specific needs—whether it’s capacity, ventilation strength, smart features, or budget—you can confidently select a model that enhances your kitchen’s functionality and style. From compact RV units to family-sized convection ovens, each product reviewed here balances performance, design, and reliability. Don’t forget to measure your space carefully and consider long-term maintenance when making your decision. Happy cooking!
