This was back in August 2023 (it’s now April 2026). One of them went out about a month ago – the cord connection is loose and I’m not enough of an electrical engineer to replace it, so I’m just going to buy a new one. (I’m going to try plugging the original one into my car. If it works, I’ll be able to use it for a road trip I’m taking next month.) I’ll be purchasing a duplicate of the original for the guest room as the 1st one served me so well! I stored 2 small bottles of water and 2 small cans of soda in the bigger area, plus added a couple of pudding cups and applesauce cups to the shelved area. (At first, I used applesauce squeeze packs and was able to fit 1 in the door compartment – so more pudding!) They’re really cute and kept everything nice and cooled! (Note: items were already cold from the big fridge before being added to these small ones, so I would say the temps were maintained.) I did discover ice build-up in the back of each unit after the first couple of years, but I just emptied them, unplugged them and turned them face down in the kitchen sink until the ice melted away. The handle is plastic, so can’t tolerate a lot of pressure, but not much is needed to open the door. I like that the top has a little groove to make carrying it from one area to another easier.”

Customer Review: ‘I originally started with the 4 liter mini-fridge, or more accurately, micro-fridge and was very pleased with it. I took it on long trips and would mainly put redbull in it (because on a long trip, who doesn’t love all the caffeine in the world) which would keep everything perfect while plugged into the car. I even love the heating feature which I used to heat water bottles up to use for a mini-shower when camping. The only issue with the 4 liter was I wanted more space. So, I decided to get the 20 liter. Just as pleased with the 20 liter as I was with the 4 liter. I live in a house with 5 other roommates so I needed to have a small fridge in my room and I decided to go with this instead of a mini-fridge you can get at in stores because I can just pack this up and take it with me wherever I go. It’s fantastic and holds what I need it to. I also was very impressed that the unit is able to go down to 15 degrees which I did not expect it to be able to do (good fridge for alcohol at that temperature). I do hear it at night every so often but it is by no means loud. It’s just a small hum that is only audible whenever it is absolutely silent in the room. I would recommend this fridge for people who would like a fridge that you are able to take with you to various places or travel a lot and still want a bit of room for a surprising amount of food and drinks. It also looks sleek which is a huge plus to me. I will say, even though I did know how much it would hold by comparison to my 4 liter, the pictures on the page do make it look slightly bigger than what it is; however, this isn’t anything that is a deal-breaker because it is able to hold quite the amount.I will give advice and say that if you are living in a dorm, I would recommend getting an actual mini-fridge as it is able to hold more and is comparable in price to this, but afterwards, I would say to get one of these if you needed a little more fridge space just due to the portability of the unit and also it has the dual function of being able to heat food as well (I don’t mean cook though because it maxes out at 149 degrees).The summary on the product is that although its biggest drawback is the size to price ratio (and I only say this because you can get bigger fridges for the same price), it makes up for it by having the versatility to be easily transported (which the size works to its advantage here) and it is able to function as a food warmer (which I first though was a neat gimmick but actually has a lot more uses than I had thought).’

This is a thermoelectric fridge so you have to keep your expectations in check, but it does much better than other thermoelectric fridges I’ve tried. The room it’s in ranges from 75 degrees to 77 degrees and the fridge ranges from 33-35 or so. The temperature shown on the display is going to be the temperature closer to the back of the fridge. The door of the fridge will always be a bit warmer, mine ranges from 42-45 (still in range for most medications though which is nice).If you’re using it for medication I’d stick a thermometer in there with your medication so you can be sure since the temperature can vary depending on the spot of the fridge, but overall I’m very happy with the cooling.The size is also great, the display turns off after two minutes for me (I noticed some people said this didn’t work for them but it do work for me). My only complaint is the shelves aren’t great but that’s not a big deal for me.’

Customer Review: “I travel quite a bit and got this to keep medication in the right temperature range when on the road and it works great! It’s not going to hold a lot so wouldn’t be good if you have a lot to put it it, but it held medicine, a drink, a sandwich and some chocolate in there and it kept the medicine in the correct temperature range even when it was over 90 degrees outside. It’s portable so it’s easy to take it in and out of hotels but watch the strap as it tends to slip out of the plastic clasp if you elongate it to put it on your shoulder. It’s got an adapter for the car, with and additional power adapter to plug it into a wall socket overnight in hotels. I recommend powering it on to cool it down before you use it so it’s already cool when you put it in the car. I’ve also added a frozen ice pack on days when I knew it would be sitting in a hot car all day (no driving) and since it’s insulated that worked well. I did start with it on my leather car seat and had no problems, but I put it on the carpeted floor of a place I was staying for 10 days and there was a lot of condensation (the carpet was soaking wet). So I recommend putting it on the floor of the car or if inside, on a desk or table because you need the ventilation space. The power cord is long – I can easily plug it into the car front power source and put the cooler in the back seat.This cooler can also be a warmer, but I haven’t used that feature at all so I can’t say how well it works.Overall: Good for a small amount of items, portability, and can use it inside a house or in a car. Not good if you have a lot of items and be careful of the strap so it doesn’t slip out on you.”

Keeping my food cold and safe, running on household AC current and standard electrical extension cord. (I currently have no refrigerator) Read more below.Dec 2024 My refrigerator died and, for various reasons, I’m unable to get a new one for a while. I was using a standard picnic cooler and ice packs, but refreezing the ice packs was a hassle, and food wasn’t really kept at a safe temperature. A friend told me about these electric coolers. After researching various brands and checking reviews, I settled on this one. So far, I’m happy.Main thing, this will plug into a wall, not just a car’s cigarette lighter, so I can use it in my home. And it doesn’t pull a lot of electricity, so even a standard electrical extension cord is safe. (No need for a heavy-duty cord.)I considered mini-refrigerators, which are pretty affordable. But they’re heavy, bulky, and the doors swing sideways, which would scrape up my kitchen floor. This Ivation cooler is lightweight, compact, roomy enough for my needs, and the lid opens upward, which is helpful since I have it sitting on my kitchen floor and can reach inside easily.My first tests with the (decades old) thermometer that I use in my koi pond, the temperature readings were about 50*. But my food items felt colder than that, and I wanted to be safe, so I bought a new household thermometer, and new readings have been consistently at 38*, which is considered safe. I’m vegetarian, so I’m not storing raw meat or much dairy, so mostly I’m trying to keep vegetables, the occasional leftover carryout, and opened cans of cat food safe. I feel this cooler is doing the job.A few things to know … The cooling mechanism is in the lid, so the unit is a bit top-heavy. The unit exhausts upward, so resist the idea that you can set anything on top of it. There is a constant “whirring” noise from the fan, but not too loud, and no clunks or on-off interludes. A fair trade off, IMO.Cool air blows from the lid down into the cavity, so don’t fill it too full, or the air vents can be blocked. And keep space between food items inside, so air can circulate. Also, in a slightly humid environment, condensation can drip from the air vents onto your food. No biggie – I lay Handi-Wipes or dish towels over the top layer of food, and they catch any drips. I also put a Handi-Wipe on the floor of the cooler, to collect any water (minimal; I’ve not yet had to change one).When you open the lid, cold air escapes and can take a while to build back up inside, so take out what you need and close it back up quickly.This has been a big help to me in my unique situation. I’ve only been using it two weeks, so I have no comment on durability or longevity. But so far, I’m tickled. I’m hoping it will hold up under steady home AC usage, for a couple of years, at least. Price was reasonable.UPDATE: I’ve been using this for a month now, plugged into my kitchen wall outlet, and it’s working great. Last week (after 3 weeks of use) I noticed it wasn’t cooling as cold. I checked under the lid where the cooling mechanism / motor / fan is, and there was some ice build up. It was there still the next day. So I turned the cooler off for a few hours, to allow the ice to melt. Once it was melted and clear, and the little bit of dripped water cleaned up, I turned the unit back on, and within a short time, the temperature was down to about 38* again. Bottom line … some weekly maintenance is a good idea, and check the motor area for icing over.”
