Customer Reviews

Works fantastic for my ice maker on my fridge. Make sure you run water though it first till it runs clear . It will run black from the charcoal. Then it’s super clean and crisp.. great value for your money ice taste great no leakage super easy to install and quite small – Customer Review: Alex P.

The media could not be loaded. So easy to install! I moved into a new apartment and the refrigerator model that came with the apartment didn’t have an internal filter for the water/ice dispenser. The fridge was already connected to the water line, so I needed an add a filter between the water line behind the fridge, and the connection to the actual fridge. I’m not handy at all, and was ready to pay a handy man to do this, but read the reviews here and it seemed simple enough. I was quite surprised that all I needed to do was cut the existing line and push each end of the line into the filter. That’s it! Didn’t need any of the connections or tubes that came with it. Water taste is much better (no chlorine smell/taste anymore!). – Customer Review: Emily S.

Customer Reviews

Great in line water filter for my KitchenAid freezer. It’s good for 20,000 gallons for 5 years even though it says replace yearly. I don’t use a lot of ice cubes so I can go the 5 years. Amazon’s the only one that carries this type of water filter. – Customer Review: Robert B.

Who doesn’t like a good bargain? I do, you do, we all do so you should like this. This is my third Watts 5 year Filter. I went to Home Depot to buy my latest replacement and they did not carry it anymore. I feared it was not available anymore and was very pleased when I did find it on line and for the same price or close to what I paid three plus years ago.I prefer to replace the filter every three years or so. It does not get heavy usage in our house. It does make Glendale, Arizona water drinkable for me.I still like to chill the water for best flavor but I can drink it without chilling. I use it to make coffee and it is fine to my taste. It is not as good as a three stage reverse osmosis (RO) system but hey it is thirty bucks AND it does not waste water like an RO system and it lasts years.Assuming you already have the setup to use a filter, it is easy to install and all you need to provide are two wrenches or pliers. One warning: In my experience the brass hex nuts that fasten the tubing to the filter need to be tightened more than the instructions say. It says to hand tighten then turn a 1/4 turn with wrench. This is my third filter and it has always leaked at this point. I turn the nuts more until the leaking stops. As with any plumbing I do I watch for leaks for a day or so before feeling confident that all is stable and dry. – Customer Review: Carol M.

Customer Reviews

I have this water filter kit on automatic re-order every 6 months to have clean filtered water from an outdoor faucet. I also have it running an ice machine to make very clean and see through ice. There is a very big and noticeable difference in water clarity and quality as well as the ice. The filter is extremely easy to use and there are instructions right on the filter itself. Replace the filter as recommended and you will always have clean water. If you run it beyond the recommended replacement time/gallons, you will notice a difference and the water will taste funny. I have been using this filter for years and have recommended it to family/friends and it has worked out very well for them as well. Buy with confidence. – Customer Review: David L.

Easy install. Just need a good pair of wire cutters (for hose) or sharp knife and a cutting board, 2 sets of pliers (for the fridge connection) and a Philips head ( better yet screw gun) for the clamp that holds the filter in place (on the wall or back of fridge), Plastic fittings can easily cross thread when connecting to parts that aren’t square (line at the fridge). Stayed calm and got through it fine. Prefer brass and metal compression fittings but I’m an old schooler from anther time. All connections worked on First try no leaks. The filter completely eradicated the taste issue we had with our new fridge 👍🏻👍🏻. Showed up early and am very satisfied. WARNING. As mentioned before I’m an old timer and reading instructions is something I rarely do. This is a CRItICAL step. Before plugging into the freezer you need to flush out the filter. The water will come out as black then after several gallons run clear. You’ve just flushed out the charcoal filter and now it’s ready to go. Do this before connecting to the fridge. Happy icing!!! Marty in Kentucky. – Customer Review: Marty K.

My wife is a complete water snob. She refused to drink out of the refrigerator water dispenser and almost exclusively bought pH balanced water. Complete Buying Guide for In Line Water Filters For Ice Makers

Essential Factors We Consider

When evaluating the best in line water filters for ice makers, we focus on several critical aspects: filtration capacity, ease of installation, compatibility with your existing water lines, certifications (like NSF), and overall value. A good filter should remove chlorine, sediment, and odors without restricting water flow or requiring constant maintenance. We also look at how long the filter lasts—some offer months of use, while others span years—and whether they include all necessary accessories.

Budget Planning

You don’t need to spend a fortune to get clean ice and water. Entry-level kits start around $20–$30 and provide solid performance for light household use. Mid-range models (around $40–$60) often include extras like shutoff valves or longer tubing. Premium options (over $70) boast extended lifespans or advanced media like KDF, ideal for high-use homes or specific water conditions. Remember: cheaper isn’t always worse—just ensure it meets your needs in terms of flow rate and contaminant removal.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right in line water filter for your ice maker ultimately depends on your lifestyle, water quality, and how much convenience you’re willing to invest in. Whether you prioritize speed of install, long filter life, or certifications, there’s a solution here that fits. By matching the filter’s capabilities to your actual usage, you’ll enjoy clearer ice, better-tasting water, and peace of mind knowing your appliance is protected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often should I replace my in line water filter for ice makers?

A: Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 6 months or after filtering approximately 300–500 gallons, whichever comes first. However, if you notice reduced water pressure, off-tastes, or slower ice production, it’s time for a change—even if the timeline hasn’t expired.

Q: Can I install an in line water filter myself?

A: Absolutely! Nearly all modern in line water filters are designed for DIY installation. Tools like pipe cutters or pliers may be needed for compression fittings, but quick-connect models require no tools at all. Follow the included instructions carefully, and remember to flush the filter before connecting it to your ice maker.

Q: Will an in line water filter affect my refrigerator’s water pressure?

A: A properly sized inline filter typically has minimal impact on water pressure. However, very restrictive filters or clogged cartridges can slow flow. Choose a filter rated for your expected gallonage, and replace it regularly to maintain optimal performance.

Q: Are NSF-certified filters worth the extra cost?

A: Yes—NSF certification means third-party testing confirms the filter meets strict standards for material safety and contaminant reduction. While uncertified filters may work, the certification adds accountability and reassurance, especially for health-conscious households.

Q: Can I use an in line water filter with hard water?

A: Standard carbon-based inline filters improve taste and odor but don’t soften hard water or remove minerals like calcium and magnesium. For hard water areas, consider pairing your inline filter with a water softener or whole-house system for comprehensive treatment.

In conclusion, upgrading to the best in line water filters for ice makers is one of the simplest ways to enhance your home’s water quality. From budget-friendly kits to high-capacity industrial-grade models, there’s a perfect match for every setup. By choosing wisely and maintaining your filter regularly, you’ll enjoy crystal-clear ice, refreshing drinking water, and extended appliance life—all without breaking the bank.
